Application
PT-80 Mobile Computer Wins Government Project
The Argox PT-80 mobile computer was recently selected by the Taiwan government for a large Taiwan Power Company project. The government bid required 400 units of the PT-80 for use in power meter reading. Employees of the Taiwan Power Company visit homes and offices to read power meters and then key the numbers into the PT-80. The meter readers return to the company and download the customer power usage information, which is then used to create power bills for the company’s customers. The power company uses its own software applications on the PT-80.

Special features of the PT-80 mobile computer include a 3.5-inch color display, the Windows CE platform, IP54 dust and water protection, and a long range CCD scanner. The PT-80 is ideal for a wide range of applications, including field service, retail, distribution, warehousing, logistics and more. The Taiwan Power Company began using the 400 units in January 2010.
Year-End Party
Celebrating Another Great Year
Argox celebrated another good year with its annual end-of-the-year party attended by foreign and local guests as well as company employees. The party featured a banquet, music, dance and comedy performances.

A company talent contest provided the main evening’s entertainment with six teams competing. The teams put on a real variety show, which included comedy skits, a drum team, tap dancing, flamenco dancing, animal costumes, and a dance performance of the Wonder Girls’ hit “Nobody”. The results were announced at the end of the contest, with first place going to the tap dancing performance, second place to the “Nobody” dance routine and third place to the flamenco dancers.

The first place tap dancers amazed everyone. Their routine was based on Michael Flatley’s “Feet of Flames”, which was not only visually powerful, but it tapped out a rhythm that rocked the crowd.

The “Nobody” dance routine included some funny moments mimicking a current TV show. But most important was the enthusiasm of the dancers, which has highly entertaining. The flamenco dancers’ Spanish costumes and the charming way the ladies and men danced together really set the mood. The second half of the performance featured a solo dance by Rosemary, who has studied flamenco for many years. She danced like a professional and received many rounds of applause.

Argox also invited the local Jumping Prince dance troupe, a dance group with costumes based on Taiwan folk deities. These dancers dressed as local deities gained fame last year at the World Games in Taiwan’s southern city of Kaohsiung dancing to electronic music in their traditional temple costumes. They danced and jumped among the audience to the song “Sorry, Sorry” and then went on stage to pass out candy and take photos with guests—it was a real expression of Taiwanese culture.

In addition there was a band to get the party mood going and many in the audience including Argox colleagues got on stage to dance. It was a great celebration, and once again we are left wondering, “How are we going to top this next year?”
