Once again Argox held its annual year-end party just before the Lunar New Year. The custom in Taiwan is for businesses to celebrate the passing year with a big party. This year Argox prepared a banquet at a local restaurant for employees, customers and suppliers, and there was plenty to eat and drink. The evening’s entertainment featured professional singers, dancers, and comedians, and everyone had a lot of fun. This was the first year that Argox presented special awards to several of our best partners, and there were some great speeches. Argox also held a company drawing to give all employees a chance to win televisions and other appliances, as well as many cash prizes. It was another successful year-end party to welcome the coming year! |

During the Chinese New Year holiday, Joy Wang, the Argox sales manager for Europe, visited the island of Kinmen located between Taiwan and China’s mainland. Her husband grew up on the island and Joy accompanied him to visit relatives, which is the custom for this holiday. Joy also had a chance to do some sightseeing and toured a few of Kinmen’s many historical sites and relics. Below are some of the sites she visited.
Kinmen is famous for its spirit lion statues. The island is surrounded by sea with no natural barriers to protect it from the seasonal winds from the northeast. The spirit lion statues were erected many years ago and people pray to them for protection from the wind and sand. The statues are an important part of the local culture.
The Tsai Family Ancestral Shrine was built in 1770 and it is the largest on Kinmen. The people on Kinmen believe that an ancestral shrine is the key to their family’s rise or fall. There are many such shrines on Kinmen and people are very demanding about its architecture, location, fengshui, and maintenance.
The Kinmen Folk Culture Village has eighteen buildings that are built in the traditional southern Fujian style. The buildings house a Folk Cultural Arts Centre, a Centre of Ceremonies, a Martial Arts Centre, and a Leisure Centre. The village has many important cultural artifacts and hosts many activities for local people and visitors alike.
Joy says that if you have a chance, Kinmen is a special place to visit. |
