Summer Camp for Sales People
Argox doubles sales personnel and begins summer training

This month's Argox Barcode News talks about training at our summer camp for sales people, provides a review of Argox's most recent S.E. Asia road show, and recalls how Argox entered the China market in the eleventh installment of the Story of Argox.

Summer Sales Camp
Argox has just started an intensive training course for sales personnel that we call “summer sales camp.” Having recently doubled our sales force, Argox now has more than 20 sales and support personnel. The new recruits are working hard to become familiar with the industry and the Argox product line. To help them quickly come up to speed, Argox’s summer camp provides two hours of classes each evening for two months. The classes cover sales and product training with homework and exams. Upon graduation the new sales people will have a chance to show what they have learned when they participate in upcoming exhibitions in September and October.
Argox Road Show, Philippines & Malaysia

In the last week of June, our director of sales and a field application engineer brought the Argox road show to the Philippines and Malaysia. In Malaysia the road show visited customers in Penang and Columbo. For the Philippines it was our first road show and we met with three customers in Manila for education and training sessions. All were new customers though they were already familiar with Argox products. The sessions covered problems and solutions in maintenance and assembly.

We were happy to discover that our customers’ technical capabilities are much better than expected, and that they clearly understand the position of our products in the market. These customers are confident sales of Argox products will grow rapidly in their markets, now that they fully understand our support systems. For the past two years the focus of the S.E. Asia barcode printer market has shifted from industrial/commercial printers to desktop printers. The reasons are that many of the manufacturers that purchase industrial/commercial printers have moved to China, while many retailers and other users are just discovering the convenience of desktop barcode and label printers.

Reminder: Retail Business Technology Show, Sydney, Australia
Mark your calendars for July 20~22, when Argox is exhibiting at the Retail Business Technology Show in Sydney, Australia. It's our second year at the show and we look forward to increasing sales in this market. We hope to talk with distributors and system integrators that can help us expand sales. If you are in Sydney for the show, please stop by and say hello.
The Story of Argox (part 11)
In 2000, Argox began to extend sales into China by developing distribution and setting up branch offices. At the time there were few companies from the industry in China. However the partners at Argox realized the great potential of the world's most populous country, and decided to invest in developing this market.

As the first step, Argox setup up offices in the expensive commercial areas of the largest cities. This showed local resellers and distributors that Argox was committed and willing to invest. Despite tough regulations and registration procedures, Argox quickly received all approvals to do business.

Argox soon came up with a 5-year plan that included participation in trade shows, developing promotional materials, visiting important cities, and understanding the players in the market. The most difficult task was finding good employees and then keeping them. Argox eventually found the right employees for sales, marketing, and technical support, who became our seed team members. Since Argox had a clear picture and a definite direction, our first employees quickly gained confidence in the company.

Two business approaches defined our entry into the China market: internet marketing and support of distributors. Argox was the first in the industry to invest heavily in internet marketing in China. Our spending on search engine placement and internet promotion spread the Argox brand name quickly throughout the country. To support distributors, Argox provided intensive training and offered loans as well as machines. Over time, as people left distributors to form their own companies, they would stay loyal to the Argox brand.

Today Argox has distributors in 23 first tier cities and liaison offices in seven cities. Argox enjoys the advantage of being a first mover in China and remains in a top position in the market. Over the next five years, Argox will continue to dominate the market for entry- and mid-level barcode printers and scanners in China.
