In this issue Argox Barcode News announces the launch of the updated Argox website, introduces the R-200 barcode printer, and reviews our recent reseller conference in Shanghai. Our experience during the great Taiwan earthquake of September 21, 1999, is recounted in the Story of Argox.

New Website Online
Argox has redesigned and updated our company website at www.argox.com. The new site is friendlier, easier to navigate, and offers more information to support our valued customers. Products are now categorized by market segment to help our worldwide resellers with product positioning and differentiation. The new site also features an expanded Knowledge Base to enhance Argox technical support, and a request page that sends technical queries directly to our FAEs. We welcome your comments and suggestions about our new website.
The R-200 Printer
Argox has just introduced the R-200 barcode printer. The R-200 is the entry-level model in Argox's R-Series of commercial barcode printers. The new printer delivers industrial capacity and durability in a cost-effective package.

The R-200 loads standard 360-meter ribbons that are suitable for volume printing tasks in an industrial environment. Argox offers two versions of the printer that differ only in the types of ribbons used. The R-200 accepts ribbons with inside coating, while the R-200K accepts ribbons with outside coating. Direct thermal and thermal transfer printing methods provide resolution of 203dpi. A 16-bit RISC CPU and 512KB of memory allow print speeds of up to 4ips. The R-200 printer offers industrial performance at an entry-level cost.

China Reseller Conference, Shanghai, China
On April 7~8, Argox hosted its 4th annual China reseller conference at Sun Island Golf Resort in Shanghai. The agenda included presentations on market development strategy, new product demonstrations, and technical support training, as well as panel discussions. Most important was the opportunity for Argox management to strengthen relationships with our dealers and distributors in China. The Argox brand has already achieved a high profile in China's large cities. Resellers' expectations have grown and they encourage Argox to enhance promotions in China's 3rd tier cities. As the conference came to a close, participants took to the driving range to relax and hit a few into the setting sun.
The Story of Argox (part 9)
On September 21, 1999, Taiwan suffered one of the most destructive earthquakes in its history, resulting in thousands of deaths and injuries, and billions of dollars in property damage. This was also one of the largest disasters the IT industry had ever experienced. All electrical power was lost and for three days there was no communication with this "manufacturing island". To the outside world Taiwan had disappeared. The world's IT supply chain lost contact and control, and production on the island came to a standstill.

Fortunately, the northern part of the island where Argox is located was less affected than other areas, and the company only experienced the loss of a plate glass window and cracks in its building structure. Even luckier, none of Argox's employees, families, or property suffered any injuries or losses.

After three days communications were restored. Argox expected a flood of customer calls asking about order schedules. Instead, customer calls were only about their concern for Argox and our employees. Not once did we hear a complaint about a delayed order. We realized that even in this commercial environment there are things more important than business; and friendship is one of them. Needless to say, we at Argox were touched by our customer's concern.

The electrical power situation took ten days to normalize and all production at Argox stopped. But once production started, a week of overtime allowed Argox to quickly catch up on our orders. Since then Argox has implemented measures to minimize losses to the company in the event of disaster, including planning procedures, crisis management, and data backup in multiple locations. Once again Argox wishes to thank our customers for their concern during that difficult time.
